The Potential of Coffee as a Cosmetic Ingredient

 Coffee is one of the most consumed beverages in the world, and its production and consumption produces a large amount of by-products each year. Coffee by-products and coffee beans have potential uses as active ingredients in skin care and cosmetic formulations, as well as growing interest in using natural ingredients in beauty products. It is The purpose of this study was to review recent patents on the cosmetic uses of coffee and coffee by-products. We analyzed 52 filed patents belonging to the International Patent Classification A61Q that contain the terms "coffee" and "skin" in the title, abstract and claims and relate to "specific uses of cosmetics or similar cosmetics".

As a result, the extracted parts were beans (39 cases), raw beans (7 cases), silver skin (thin skin, 3 cases), skin and pulp (1 case), pulp (1 case), beans and leaves (1 case). rice field. In addition, the application areas were skin (29 cases), eyes and their areas (12 cases), hair (9 cases) and lips (2 cases), and applications were anti-aging, moisturizing agents, sun protection, hair growth, and anti-dandruff. . Coffee and its residues contain high amounts of phenolic compounds, caffeine, fatty acids, and other substances known to have important biological properties for skin. Coffee and its by-products were considered promising ingredients to ensure skin health benefits and reduce environmental impact.
