Meditation can reduce back pain in the short term

Investigated whether meditation for low back pain is effective in alleviating and improving low back pain.

In this study, we conducted a meta-analysis of 12 studies (1005 participants, aged 18 years and older). We assessed the effects of meditation on pain intensity, physical functioning, quality of life, and depression in people with low back pain.

Meditation was associated with improved pain intensity and quality of physical life compared to the non-meditating group. However, at an average follow-up of 20 weeks, the significant effects of meditation had disappeared. The quality of the evidence was moderate due to study limitations and imprecision.
