Childhood obesity risk linked to screen time

Previous studies have shown a relationship between screen time and childhood obesity, but no dose-response relationship has yet been observed. The current study included 45 studies evaluating the relationship between screen time and obesity from the electronic databases Scopus, PubMed, and Embase.

A two-class meta-analysis found that the category with the highest screen time was 1.2 times more likely to develop obesity. Subgrouping found that setting, obesity status and age group may account for heterogeneity. No evidence of a non-linear association was observed between increased screen time in children and obesity risk (P-nonlinearity = 0.310), a positive association was found.
