Mouthwash containing Medhagi extract is effective in preventing tooth decay

To evaluate whether a mouthwash containing an extract of the leguminous perennial Lespedeza cuneata improves the oral environment and is effective in preventing dental caries. Ninety-five volunteer participants with a similar oral environment were randomized to a mouthwash group containing phlox extract and a saline group for a 5-day trial. Participants in each group gargled once daily for 5 days before going to bed, and at three time points before gargling, immediately after gargling, and five days after gargling, activity of caries bacteria and microbiological analysis were performed.

As a result, it was confirmed that the activity of caries bacteria was significantly reduced in the mouthwash group up to 5 days after treatment. In addition, caries-causing bacteria in the maxillary and mandibular teeth were significantly reduced. The researchers say that these results confirm that the medhava extract is a natural anti-caries agent.
