Developed a functional pericarp extract of Okinawa's endemic species "Kabuchi"

Sophia University Faculty of Science and Technology, Department of Materials Science and Life Science, together with high-end cosmetics makers Albion Co., Ltd. and Ebisu Chemical Co., Ltd., conducted joint research in pursuit of the functionality of the pericarp extract of the Okinawan citrus "Kabuchi", which is endemic to Okinawa. We have developed a pericarp extract that makes the most of the fruit.

Kabuchi is a citrus fruit unique to Okinawa that still retains its wild characteristics. It has a fresh aroma and a simple taste with little acidity, and has long been popular in Okinawa Prefecture. The Kabuchi used as a material this time uses the residue after being squeezed as juice. Normally, juice residue is discarded, but it has become possible to make effective use of it by adding high value by extracting it. Kabuchi pericarp extract has never been produced as a raw material for cosmetics, and this joint research is the first attempt.
