FANCL develops technology to visualize "physical strength"

FANCL is conducting research on a technology that can easily estimate the "anaerobic threshold," which has been conventionally used as an indicator for visualizing an individual's "physical strength." This time, we have developed a method for easily estimating "AT" using "oxygen saturation work threshold" using oxygen saturation. This "ST" is a measurement method using "SpO2", and it is the world's first technology that can be used as an individual's "physical strength index". Since this technology can easily and accurately estimate the optimal exercise intensity for an individual's "physical strength," it is expected to find many applications in fields other than medicine and sports. A patent has been obtained for this technology.

"AT" is a turning point at which "aerobic exercise" begins to be switched to "anaerobic exercise" when the exercise load is gradually increased from light exercise, and is an index of an individual's "physical strength". In addition, since exercising at the time of AT provides the optimum exercise intensity for the individual, it is applied to efficiently build physical strength in the medical field such as rehabilitation treatment and in the sports field.

There are two methods for measuring "AT": a test method using "exhaled gas analysis" and a method using "blood lactic acid concentration". However, all of these methods require special measuring equipment and facilities, or blood collection analysis, so they are limited to measurements at specific facilities such as hospitals and research institutes. In addition, there was a "disadvantage" that the conventional measurement method cannot be easily performed, such as requiring a physical burden on the person to be measured. It is known that the higher the "physical strength", the higher the health, survival rate, and exercise performance level. By visualizing "physical strength", it is possible to efficiently build physical strength with the optimal exercise intensity for each individual.

This technology does not require special equipment or blood sampling, and can easily estimate "AT" with no burden on the person being measured. It is a technology development that can be widely applied not only in the medical field and sports field but also in the beauty field.
