Kao Expands Synthetic Fragrance Production Facility in Spain

Kao will expand production facilities at Kao Chemicals Europe's Olessa plant in Spain to maintain and expand its No. 1 market share in the European market for synthetic fragrance Methyl DihydroJasmonate.

MDJ gives an elegant and fresh floral scent and is a key fragrance raw material used in a wide range of consumer products, with an estimated market size of 20,000 tons in 2021.

MDJ is used in a wide range of products due to its high affinity with other materials. Demand is strong in Europe, the largest market for MDJ, and the global average annual growth rate is expected to be 4%.

The company has been producing MDJs in Spain since 2001, and will add new equipment to meet further demand growth, mainly in the European market. The production capacity of the new facility is expected to be more than double that of the existing facility.

The new equipment will use a manufacturing method developed independently to improve productivity, reduce CO2 emissions by 2,000 tons per year, and reduce wastewater treatment energy by reducing wastewater containing salt by 100% (850 tons per year). .

We aim to further strengthen our business with advanced technology and stable supply capabilities that can respond to European ethical trends and environmental regulations.
