Kao Develops Hair Technology That Maintains Smooth Fingering

 Kao has developed a technology that cares for the entire hair and improves the texture of the hair by improving finger flow and hair flow. Molecules that are controlled to adhere to the hair in a smaller, dispersed state than general care ingredients form a network and transform into a film using a new technology that transforms into a film that evenly covers the entire hair. Therefore, it is resistant to rubbing and water, and it is possible to maintain smoothness for a long time.


As a result of verification, it was confirmed that the friction of hair treated with the new technology was reduced regardless of the degree of damage, and that it was on par with healthy hair. In the future, we will use this technology to develop products that improve the texture of the entire hair and allow you to experience beautiful hair all day long.

The surface of healthy hair is covered with cuticles, but due to damage, the cuticles come off (damaged hair) or disappear (severely damaged hair).

In the mainstream coloring of the entire hair until now, there was a tendency for the damage to be greater toward the ends of the hair, but recently, inner coloring has become popular, and in such hair, severely damaged hair occurs inside and around the face. It was found that hair with different damage levels coexisted throughout the hair. In addition, many of the care ingredients used in existing treatments act on the cuticle, so the effect on severely damaged hair that has lost the cuticle is limited.


Therefore, we thought we needed a new care technology that would be effective even on severely damaged hair, and that could be used not only on the ends of the hair but also on the entire hair.


In our research, we devised a new technology that covers the surface of the hair with a lubricating film (veil) like a cuticle, in order to make severely damaged hair feel as good as healthy hair. We selected a new care ingredient that can be adsorbed on the surface of hair in various conditions, and then established a technology to control the state of dispersion of that ingredient.

Since general care ingredients (lubricating ingredients such as silicone) are large molecules, they cannot be uniformly adsorbed. We have established a technology that transforms into a membrane by forming a network. With this technology, the film adheres to cover the entire hair evenly, so it is resistant to rubbing and water, and it is possible to maintain smoothness for a long time.


As a result of measuring the combing force, which indicates how well the hair can be combed and combed, the friction of the hair treated with the new technology was reduced regardless of the degree of damage, and was comparable to that of healthy hair. This indicates that finger combability is as good as that of healthy hair, and it is considered that even with mixed damaged hair, the combability and flow of the hair as a whole could be improved.
