Shiseido, Sekisui Chemical, and Sumitomo Chemical collaborate to start efforts to build a new circulation model for plastic cosmetic containers.

Shiseido Co., Ltd., Sekisui Chemical Co., Ltd. and Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. are working to build a series of circulation models that collect plastic cosmetic containers, recycle them into resources and raw materials without sorting them, and then recycle them as containers. start.

Cosmetic containers are made from a wide variety of plastics because of the importance of protecting the contents, ease of use, and design, but it is difficult to separate them, which is an issue when recycling them as plastic resources. .. Therefore, the three companies decided to utilize each other's strengths to build a new mechanism from the collection of plastic cosmetic containers to their recycling.

Shiseido will work to establish a collection scheme for plastic cosmetic containers through stores and utilize recycled polyolefins in cosmetic containers. Sekisui Chemical uses "BR ethanol technology" to gasify used plastics and other combustible waste without separating them and convert them into ethanol by the power of microorganisms to recycle them into ethanol, which is the raw material for plastics. .. Sumitomo Chemical uses the technology to produce ethylene from recycled ethanol as a raw material to provide recycled polyolefins with the same quality as conventional products made from fossil resources.

The three companies will collaborate across corporate boundaries and encourage related industries and companies to participate, aiming to realize a circular economy.
