Length of sitting time is associated with death and risk of heart disease

A survey of the association between sitting time and all-cause mortality and cardiovascular disease in high-, middle- and low-income countries was published.

In this study, sitting time in countries with different economic levels was measured using an internationally standardized physical activity questionnaire, and the association between mortality and major cardiovascular disease was examined in a population-based cohort study. Using data from the Prospective Urban Rural Epidemiology (PURE) study of a prospective cohort study conducted on five continents, including low- and middle-income countries, participants aged 35-70 in 21 high-, middle- and low-income countries, 105-677 People were followed for a median of 11.1 years.

As a result, a combined outcome (cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, stroke or heart failure) of all-cause mortality and major cardiovascular disease (cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, stroke or heart failure) in a long sitting position (8 hours or more per day) based on a sitting time of less than 4 hours per day ( Hazard ratio 1.19), all-cause mortality (1.20) and major cardiovascular disease (1.21) were at high risk. When stratified by national income level, the association between sitting time and compound outcomes is lower-income / low-middle-income countries (same as above) than high-income / high-middle-income countries (hazard ratio of 8 hours or more per day: 1.08). It was strong at 1.29).
