Calcipotriol cream is effective against acne

Retinoids and calcipotriols regulate the proliferation and differentiation of keratinocytes. Retinoids have been used to treat acne due to their keratolytic and anti-inflammatory effects, but the effects of calcipotriol have not been reported.

In this study, 40 acne patients were treated with topical calcipotriol (0.005%) cream and 0.1% adapalene gel on the right and left sides of the face, respectively. The clinical and histological efficacy was evaluated 2 months after the start of treatment.

As a result, all acne lesions were significantly reduced, and the overall evaluation scores by doctors and patients on both sides of the face were significantly reduced. There was no significant difference on both sides. Histological evaluation showed a significant reduction in the density of inflammatory infiltrates, which was more pronounced on the right side. Local calcipotriol had the same anti-inflammatory effect as adapalene
