Albion unveils extraction research building and winery in Fujisato Town, Akita Prefecture

Albion established a research institute and a pilot farm in 2010 with the cooperation of Fujisato Town, Akita Prefecture, at the foot of the Shirakami Mountains, a World Natural Heritage Site. In 2012, he started purchasing Yama Sobinion from Fujisato Town and started studying grape-derived cosmetic ingredients.

From 2015, he started consulting with Fujisato Town about viticulture and development of cosmetic raw materials, and from 18 years he took over the vines from a vine farmer who was out of business due to old age and cultivated vines for research on cosmetic raw materials. Then, in 2009, as a facility of the institute, "ALBION Shirakami Vineyard & Winery" was opened to carry out the production of in-house cultivated plant extracts, extraction technology research, and fermentation technology research.

At the facility, various extraction researches including the world's first Albion original subcritical dimethyl ether extraction are conducted, including cultivation technology research, extraction of extracts from seeds, peels, and fruit stalks, and wine production and brewing from residual fruit juice. We are conducting research on fermentation technology in the process. By making it possible to study extraction, it will be possible to carry out consistent research from plant cultivation to product formulation, and it will be possible to maximize its uniqueness and efficacy. In addition, it is possible to develop highly novel raw materials through fermentation research developed from winemaking technology.

On the other hand, in Fujisato Town, grape cultivation has been carried out since around 1990, and "Shirakami Mountains Wine" was produced by bringing grapes for wine raw materials, which is a special product of Fujisato Town, to a brewery in Yamagata Prefecture. However, due to the change in the labeling standard of wine, it became impossible to label it as "Shirakami Mountains Wine" as before, and it was forced to suspend production at the end of 2018.

Since the name change of wine is directly linked to the brand image of the product, in order to revive the "Shirakami Mountains Wine" in Fujisato Town, we created a new "Shirakami Mountains Wine" where everything from raw material cultivation to winemaking is done in the town. From the desire to promote it as a special product and to revitalize the region, it led to the revival of "Shirakami Mountains Wine" for the first time in four years.
