Kao promotes innovation in choosing new cosmetics

 Kao will apply its own sebum RNA monitoring technology and start creating a new cosmetic selection system in collaboration with istyle. To utilize this technology in the beauty field, the company started test operation of a counseling service using this technology at the beauty information transmission base "BEAUTY BASE by KAO Ginza store" in December 2020.


This time, we will collect sebum RNA of people who have obtained consent from the members of the beauty comprehensive site "@cosme" operated by istyle Inc., classify it into "RNA skin type" and build a database, and make cosmetics from RNA skin type. We will work toward the realization of a service that allows efficient selection of RNA.

In skin care research, we have created products with new functions and solutions for consumers' skin problems, but on the other hand, many consumers have not come across cosmetics that suit their skin. Remained as an industry challenge for many years.


In recent years, new purchasing behaviors have been seen in which products are selected while referring to reliable user information on SNS, but in terms of purchasing based on subjective judgment, it is the same as conventional cosmetics selection. I haven't come across cosmetics that suit me even though I'm full of things and information. We believe that the RNA monitoring technology developed by Kao will help solve such consumer dilemmas.
