Tea catechin, high concentration in aqueous solution, measures against corona

HPG, which conducts research and development of sanitary products and cosmetic raw materials, has succeeded in developing a technology to stabilize green tea catechins in an aqueous solution at a high concentration. It has demonstrated the infection-inhibiting and inactivating effects of influenza and the new coronavirus, and plans to build up a business strategy by accumulating further evidence in the future. Started proposal activities for adoption to manufacturers of toiletries, food and drink, cosmetics, etc.

Epigallocatechin gallate, which is abundant in tea leaves, has been a major drawback in the development of various products because it is severely oxidatively deteriorated and lacks storage stability. The company's aqueous solution technology that overcomes this point can be stabilized at a high concentration of 10,000 ppm, and it is easy to adjust the concentration by dilution.

The components of the EGCg aqueous solution are all food additives approved by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, and "can be used safely by children and the elderly, and can be applied to prevent virus infection in livestock farms" (President Masanori Kanayama). It is colorless and transparent even at high concentrations, and can be processed without feeling the bitterness of tea leaves. It can be used for a wide range of purposes such as oral care, hand disinfectant, food and drink, and foot mats.

The company has already set up a production system of about 100 tons per month, and if there is a request for mass production, we will consider developing the business as a partner such as license agreement and technical cooperation.
