Tsukino Group Discovers New Beauty Effect of Lysterol Ester

Lysterol ester is an ester of plant sterol, triterpene alcohol and fatty acid contained in rice bran oil extracted by Tsukino Group's original technology. It has excellent water-holding properties and is used as a raw material for cosmetics such as skin protectants and emollients. This time, we have discovered a new function that works on skin cells to enhance the beauty effect.

From a test using fibroblasts derived from human dermis, the expression level of the COL3 gene that synthesizes type III collagen increased when the lysterol ester was allowed to act on the cells, and the type III collagen itself produced by the cells was also associated. It has become clear that it increases. Type III collagen is also called baby collagen and is known to decrease with age. The same test also revealed that lysterol ester has the effect of increasing the expression level of the HAS2 gene, which is a hyaluronic acid synthase, thereby increasing the amount of hyaluronic acid produced. Hyaluronic acid is also said to decrease with age. I am. From this test, it is considered that lysterol ester acts on fibroblasts of the dermis, increases type III collagen from the genetic level, and also increases hyaluronic acid production to keep the skin youthful.

Based on the results of the cell test, we conducted a human application test. Twenty-two female subjects applied sterol ester-containing cream to half of their faces and lysterol ester-free cream to the other half daily, and continued the test for 12 weeks while taking measurements once every four weeks. Did. From the measurement results, it was clarified that the test cream reduces the amount of transepidermal water loss. Percutaneous water evaporation represents the amount of water that evaporates through the stratum corneum, and its decrease indicates an improvement in skin barrier function. The water content of the stratum corneum was also improved by using the test cream from the 4th week of application, and the effect of increasing the moisture of the skin was confirmed. These results demonstrate the cosmetic effect of lysterol esters on skin fibroblast activation in humans.
