Kao opens a lab for plastic recycling with Keio University and Kamakura City

Kao participated in the "Digitally Driven Super Resource Recycling Participatory Social Co-creation Center" adopted as a nurturing project in the "Co-creation Place Formation Support Program" of the National Research and Development Corporation, Keio University. Established "Recycling Lab" with Kamakura City and participating companies / organizations.

In the project, the digital platform, IoT, and 3D manufacturing technology of Keio University will be introduced to Kamakura City, an SDGs future city that has promoted waste reduction and resource recycling with the aim of realizing "Zero Waste Kamakura". The government, academia and the private sector will work together to re-commercialize the plastics discharged in the city to higher value and return them to the community, aiming to build a sound material-cycle society.

Since 2015, Kao has combined the "recycling" of returning used products to resources and the "creation" of creating new value, and has added technology and wisdom to refill packs of detergents and shampoos that have been used once. , We are working on "recycling" activities that create new value as more fun and better things by adding ideas. Since 2016, Kamakura City has been collecting used refill packs and reusing them into blocks named "Welcome Blocks", which are useful in the region.

In this project, we will integrate this recreational activity, connect from collection to upcycling, and explore the creation of a new system in which all citizens, local governments, and companies can participate creatively.
