Nikko Chemicals-Participating in a dream project to establish new technology from space

It is likely to make a big step toward the development of new materials that are not on the planet. Nikko Chemicals is the only Japanese private company to participate in the "EDDI (Emulsion Dynamics and Droplet Interfaces) Project", an international industry-academia collaboration project launched by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. We will explore new possibilities for surfactants under microgravity and lead to the development of new technologies.

The EDDI project is a project approved by ESA in 2018 as part of an academic research program aimed at utilizing microgravitational fields for physical, biological and chemical experiments. The purpose is to develop a more efficient emulsification process that can obtain the optimum emulsion with a small amount of emulsifier by carefully examining the physical properties and behavior of the surfactant regarding the emulsification function in the ideal system that eliminates the influence of gravity.
