Developed cosmetic raw materials for naturally derived ketone bodies manufactured by Osaka Gas using its own fermentation method

3-Hydroxybutyric acid, a naturally derived ketone body manufactured by Osaka Gas Co., Ltd. using its own fermentation method, was used for the first time as a raw material for cosmetics.

Our subsidiary Osaka Gas Chemical Co., Ltd. sells 3HB "OHALOS" for cosmetics, and body care cosmetics containing OHALOS will be sold by FDP Co., Ltd. from December 15th.

3HB is a substance produced in the liver using fat in the body as a raw material when sugar, which is an energy source in the body, is depleted. In recent years, it has various physiological functions in addition to its role as an energy source in place of sugar. I understand.

3HB is currently sold as a supplement mainly in the United States, but conventional 3HB is produced by chemically synthesizing non-natural products as raw materials, and there is an increasing need for naturally derived 3HB.

Osaka Gas will utilize its unique fermentation technology accumulated through the development of biogas production processes, and through joint development with the National Research and Development Corporation Industrial Technology Research Institute, in 2017, it will have high purity from plant-derived sugars such as sugar cane. We have succeeded in establishing the technology for mass production of 3HB.
