100% chemically recycled PET material is used for cosmetic containers

FANCL Corporation has formulated the Sustainability Declaration from 2018 and has made "environment" one of its priority themes. Under these circumstances, we are actively working on "sustainable container packaging" and "collection of used cosmetic containers" with the aim of realizing a plastic recycling society. As part of this, we will switch the bottle container of "Mild Cleansing Oil", which will be renewed and released from November 18th (Thursday), to 100% recycled PET material made by chemical recycling technology. Starting with this switch, we will gradually switch to 100% chemical recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate) materials for cosmetic PET containers by the end of March 2023.

PET materials used in cosmetic containers are generally considered to be difficult to recycle due to their coloring and decoration. However, in recent environmental problems, the problem of using plastics such as PET is big, and it is necessary to consider not only the reduction of the amount used but also the method of making it a circulation type.

Chemical recycled PET is a material made by reusing used PET material using chemical recycling technology. It has been said that it is difficult to guarantee the quality of general recycled PET due to deterioration caused by repeated regeneration, but chemical recycled PET can have the same quality as petroleum-derived virgin PET. Furthermore, by using this technology, it is possible to reuse a wide range of PET, and it is also excellent as a part of the plastic recycling society.

Therefore, we will gradually switch to chemical recycled PET materials for cosmetic PET containers to help solve environmental issues. The first mild cleansing oil can reduce CO2 emissions by about 47% compared to petroleum-derived virgin PET by this switching.

In addition, from July 2021, used cosmetic containers will be collected by a unique mechanism.

We are implementing the "FANCL Recycling Program-Let's Spread Flowers and Greenery-". A special collection box will be set up, and the collected containers will be recycled into flower pots and donated as a collaborative project with the leading project "Garden Necklace Yokohama" (sponsored by Yokohama City) to promote "Garden City Yokohama". Currently, we have 6 directly managed stores in Kanagawa and Tokyo, an international shop on the 1st floor of FANCL Ginza Square, which is the flagship store, and a beauty shop on the 3rd floor, and we are planning to expand the number of stores. At the same time, our employees also participate and work together with our customers.
