chemical and cosmetics manufacturers promote the use of marine yeast-derived pigments as raw materials for cosmetics
Kasei Kasei Co., Ltd. (Iwata City, Shizuoka Prefecture / President: Taku Shibata) and Vitamin C60 BioResearch Co., Ltd. (Chuo-ku, Tokyo / President: Gentaro Hayashi), a cosmetics raw material manufacturer, jointly joined forces. It was reported that it is working on a business to utilize the natural pigment "carotenoid" produced by marine yeast collected off the coast of Atami as a raw material for cosmetics.
The two companies are aiming to commercialize the antioxidant functions of the new carotenoids, such as whitening and wrinkle suppression, in cosmetics and start selling them in the market by the end of 2024.
Professor Makiko Hamamoto of the Microbial Engineering Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Meiji University is conducting research on this carotenoid as "Analysis of the physiological functions of rare carotenoids produced by marine yeast." In collaboration with the professor, the two companies are also investigating the effects they have on the skin as cosmetic ingredients.
