Kirin and FANCL have conducted joint research on the use of "aged hop extract" originally developed by Kirin as a raw material for cosmetics and new functions (hereinafter, "aged hop" is used as a raw material for cosmetics using aged hop extract. Kirin and FANCL have jointly applied for a patent on both technologies related to the development of cosmetic raw materials and new functions related to "aged hop extract."

One of the problems with pores is "clogging of keratin plugs".

 A keratin plug is a mixture of old keratin and sebum, and if the keratin plug remains clogged in the pores, skin problems such as inflammation are likely to occur. Therefore, we investigated the effects of "aged hop extract-containing cosmetic ingredients" on each of keratin and sebum.

As a result, it was confirmed that the developed "aged hop extract-containing cosmetic raw material" swells about 3 times as much as keratin, which is the main component of keratin, compared to purified water. From this, it is expected that the keratin will be softened and the keratin plug will be easily removed.

Next, in order to confirm the antioxidant effect of sebum of "aged hop extract-containing cosmetic raw material", it was added to linoleic acid, which is one of the constituents of sebum, and the degree of production of lipid peroxide was measured. As a result of comparing the degree of lipid peroxide production with no addition (control / control), "aged hop extract-containing cosmetic raw material" suppressed the degree of linoleic acid lipid peroxide to about 1/14. This is considered to have the same antioxidant effect as BHT * 1, BHA, α-tocopherol, etc., which are general lipid antioxidants.

From the above, it was found that the developed "cosmetic raw material containing aged hop extract" approaches both keratin and sebum, which are the factors that cause keratin plugs. By adding this ingredient to cosmetics, it is expected that the condition of pores will be kept healthy.

Kirin has been conducting research and development focusing on the health function of "hops", which has long been popular as a medicinal herb in Europe since the beginning of 2000, and has developed its own new material "aged hop extract". Did. Kirin has confirmed in previous studies that "aged hop extract" has a body fat-suppressing effect and a cognitive function-improving effect. We have been applying it.
